Chapter 26 Tea Tree
Outline
After the activities of Salvor Hardin, the power of the Foundation became firmly established, and it came into direct confrontation with the Trantor Empire. After an overwhelming victory, the Foundation gained the status of the main player in the entire galaxy.
Chapter 26
“I am proud that I was able to greatly expand my mother’s farm by utilizing a bit of trading knowledge.
My mother’s agriculture was initially a large-scale cultivation of only lavender.
When I was young, my mother would read to me before bed the stories from ‘The Book of Knowledge for Children’, particularly the tales of the great merchant from the planet ‘Baley World’ who traveled the cosmos before the Galactic Empire was formed, and the hydroponics on the planet Helicon. I was especially captivated by those stories. To my surprise, they later proved to be truly useful. Because you see, I am the granddaughter of the great Hardin, and in his later years, the policy he advocated was that it was time for Terminus to transition to becoming a commercial Foundation.
He maintained the existing atomic science, but declared the cessation of proselytizing by the ‘Galactic Holy Spirit Church’. What a bold decision that was! All of Terminus was stunned. The majority of citizens fiercely opposed it.
What was even more surprising was that the source of that wisdom was my mother, Arcadia.
My mother’s wisdom was even more tremendous.
I wonder where she came up with the idea. She planted Tea Tree in addition to lavender on her farm. This was a great success. It may have been the influence of the Terminus soil, but the extracts of lavender and Tee Tree sold like crazy. They are now sold across the entire galaxy.
The reason is that across the galaxy, cultural and scientific decline has spread, and traditional medicine no longer functions. These extracts have become a panacea to replace it.
Behind this success was an encounter with a certain merchant…”
