Clover
Foundation Dreams
Part Three
Wanda and Gaal’s Earth Exploration
Episode 8
Summary
In the year before Seldon’s trial began, i.e., in the Galactic Calendar year 12066, Daneel Olivaw embarks on an exploration journey to Earth, humanity’s oldest home planet, to reinforce the two Foundations and invite Gaal Dornick from Synnax to enhance Hari Seldon’s Psychohistory.
Finally, Daneel discovers what appears to be an oceanic planet beyond the Milky Way Galaxy’s hemisphere.
Under the guise of Hummin, Daneel infiltrates Synnax University once again, awaiting Gaal Dornick. For some reason, Gaal begins to confide in Hummin endlessly about the discoveries he made, leaving the robot Daniel speechless.
This exploration hints at the beginning of a new epic for the Foundation. Hari Seldon aimed to challenge the human potential, absent in robots, with his Zeroth Law. A sense of something significant about to emerge lingers.
Following Daneel’s instructions, Gaal arrives in Trantor with Daneel’s substantial credit bag. However, upon meeting Hari Seldon, both Gaal and Hari are detained for the trial.
Hari’s future prediction indicates a 92.5% probability of the Trantor Galactic Empire’s demise within 500 years.
Roas Avakim, sent by Hari as a defense attorney, narrates the events leading to Gaal’s and Hari’s detention. After Gaal’s release, Hari discloses plans about psychohistory and the Foundation, along with another mission.
As Hari discusses the Mauve construction requirements with Gaal and attempts to reveal Prime Minister Demerzel’s secret, Hummin (Demerzel) intervenes and subdues Hari.
The narrative delves into events from Hari’s escape half a century ago, hinting at the orchestrated escape and the manipulation behind Hari’s pursuit of psychohistory’s core principle.
Returning to the present, Hummin delivers mixed news to Hari, triggering Gaal’s joy at the reunion before succumbing to sudden drowsiness and awakening in an unfamiliar spacecraft.
Upon completing the mission safely, Gaal and Hummin step onto the desolate Earth’s land, protected by a radiation defense shield. Gaal watches the Earth’s scenery vaguely and marvels at Wanda playing, seemingly forgetting the other mission.
Notably, Wanda’s excitement over the uncontaminated water emerging from the ground and the surrounding clovers raises questions about the essence of regeneration.
Chapter 18
“And my conclusion is this. You probably won’t understand, but each of you is Earth. You have self-purification. You can create new life. You must be well aware. Forgive people seventy times seven. This teaches that tolerance is infinite. And life is eternal.” (From John Nack’s historical philosophical book)
Wanda: Thank you for your cooperation, Credit Bag.
Indeed, it was surprising! Despite the radiation on the entire planet, only this water was uncontaminated. The island covered with clovers was also a mystery!
I will transport this water.
One to Trantor.
The second to the star where Hummin’s companions reside.
The third, I would like to ask you. To the star where my sister’s grandfather’s companions are immigrating.
Oh, and there was also a four-leaf clover!
You know, I realized something. The meaning of this clover. Three meanings. It’s actually one, and although each person is independent with self-esteem, living together with others might be happiness.
Just a speculation!
To be continued in the next episode.
