John Nack’s words echoed heavily.

“Evolution almost inevitably reaches a dead end. Most perish there—but a few alone retrace time itself, seeking a thread of survival.”

In the research chamber of the interstellar vessel Sympathetic Harvey, Novel Mirai was turning those words over in his mind when he suddenly looked up.
“Richy, I’d like you to verify the validity of that myth.”

Q. Richy Ensnovi frowned slightly, then began explaining Nack’s theory.

“Nack provides a basis for it. He states that the divergence of genome haplotype DE occurred eighty thousand years ago at the foot of Mount Ararat. Furthermore, he introduces another ancestor of the twentieth-century Helios-Gaian people: Albert Einstein—the man who revealed the theory of relativity. Nack also adds that there is an interpretation suggesting relativity applies not only to the correlation between space and time, but also to the relationship between time and time itself.”

Novel Mirai nodded thoughtfully.
“Thank you, Richy. I feel as though a great mystery has been unraveled. Freedom of choice includes the freedom to refuse. They did not have to diverge into East and West! Or perhaps—even now—it may not be too late. Returning to the banks of a pure river…”

Q. Richy Ensnovi allowed himself a faint smile.
“That is not something science can resolve, Novel Mirai.”

le, then surely… Panbios!”
Novel Mirai spoke while gazing into the distance.

Then, suddenly, he shifted his gaze back to Richy.
“By the way—what was the ‘mystery’ you mentioned?”

Q. Richy Ensnovi looked at him with a knowing expression.
“Novel Mirai, haven’t you already solved it? Or rather… you’re the culprit.”

Novel Mirai smiled quietly, accepting the remark.
“In truth, there is still one more mystery I must unravel.”

As for what that mystery might be—it seems we must wait for the next episode.
