Novel Mirai, drifting in a brief moment of drowsiness, recalled the words of a philosopher of ancient Earth.
Having inherited the empathic ability of his ally Calvin, he had long considered how humanity might be sustained through the dark age of stagnation that was destined to come. Now, freed from the responsibilities of the Chancellorship, he clearly understood what his next mission must be.
Like the memory of Elior Liang—whom he had met on Ealrt twenty thousand years ago—Novel Mirai himself was growing old.
A successor would be needed.
Dora would take care of Griss. After the regeneration on Planet Ios, she would quietly watch over Lambda from the shadows.
I witnessed it myself—the faint remnant of the sea that still remained in the age when Elior lived. Through my contact with Elior Liang, I acquired something that ordinary R did not possess: a sensation that could almost be called human emotion. Whether it is good or bad, I cannot say.
Let us search for the planet where that sea exists.
Surely someone must be there on the world that holds that sea.
On Planet Naxel there is said to be a sea like the one that existed on ancient Earth. It is said that the people of Naxel recreated the oceans of Earth’s distant past.
